I am buying macbook for the first time.

I am not gaming anymore and I need a mobile pc. I have 2 options on my mind.

1- Refurbished 2017 Mac Pro 13.3 in 16GB Ram i7 7660U (499.99 Usd)
I think this is the latest ssd upgradeable Mac and I will upgrade with 1TB nvme ssd I already have, so plus 10 usd for ssd adapter. Total 510 USD.

2nd option is- 2020 Macbook Air M1 8GB Ram 256 SSD (799.99 USD)

Is it really worth to pay extra 290 USD and get 8gb less memory and 1/4 storage to get M1 chip instead of 7660U for Macbooks?

Yes. It is worth buying the M1 for a few reasons. Technically 7th Gen Intel processor is pretty old. A Kaby Lake version which was just a hotter skylake. Most likely a dual core chip. It will be slow, run hot and battery life will be shot unless they replaced the battery.

You have a high chance of motherboard issues as well and basically no warranty and who knows how long Apple will support it. 7 years is considered vintage.

On the M1 you are getting a brand new machine and several times better performance even with 8gb ram compared to the old Intel processor. Not only is the M1 much, much faster but the ram is faster compared to the MBP you are looking at. A better gpu as well. You have a year Warranty and option to buy Apple Care.

Yes the storage isn't great but you can get a cheap external drive if you need to.

For a few hundred you are getting a device that will last you 4, 5 years easy while the MBP will get a couple more if you are lucky.

IMHO you will basically be throwing away $510 vs spending more but having a much better experience.
