Hello all,

I am considering selling my iMac and was wondering if I could get a few opinions on a fair asking price? I looked into eBay but honestly the prices were all over the place so I am unsure. Any insight would be most appreciated. Here are the specs...

2017 Retina 5K 27" imac
4.2 GHz Quad Core i7
Radeon Pro 580 8 GB
64 GB RAM (Official Apple RAM)
1TB SSD
Includes Magic keyboard and Choice of Magic Trackpad or Magic Mouse
Everything is in like new perfect condition.

Thanks!

Are you using the 'Sold Items' checkbox on eBay?

This gives you a much better picture than just looking at the listings.

What I would do: search for the config as close as possible to yours, click 'Filters' > 'Sold Items', take the highest amount, deduct $50 from it and make a fixed-price listing. Then adjust the price every 2 weeks, if it doesn't sell.

I'd say $600-800 maybe?

Very nice machine, but you'll struggle with it being 7 years old and Intel
The end of the runway is in sight and not a desirable place to be for most buyers even looking at iMacs

The price reflects this, don't you worry! What is not desirable for one person, is an absolute bargain and the best possible purchase for another.

I'm not disagreeing!

eBay is one thing (good luck with the risk of shipping an iMac to someone), but locally (FB and CL) I see 5k iMacs going by all the time and they usually sell for $500-$900 depending upon having an SSD vs Fusion Drive

It's important to be realistic. Simply "finding an interested buyer" can be a challenge for an old (7 years is old) Intel (not current or future macOS platform) at this point.

I wouldn't get greedy -- Price it to move

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I did filter the sold items but didn't find a whole lot comparable. Also what I did find seemed to range quite a bit.

I was thinking $600-$800 as well but just unsure. And yes it has been a very nice machine. Still handles everything I throw at it. Just received a laptop from work so I thought I might cash in on this now. I am just a little hesitant because the display is just awesome.

Try to sell locally if you can -- so much risk on eBay with something as big/fragile as an iMac ... and the fees will eat a full $100+ also

Your pricing range is very fair, and attractive I think

Thanks. Yes, I was planning on doing local FB Marketplace. Definitely not dealing with shipping etc...

Just a hint:
I have been selling many iMacs. Even with current macOS they sell hard, the bad reputation of the older iMacs weighs a lot against them. And now without Apple silicon, it's even worse.
Frequently listed for weeks without luck.
But sold as "5K Design All-inOne Workstations with Windows 11", they sell in 1-2 days.
Just ditch macOS and install Windows 11.
:)
