Hi all,

I currently have a 2017 5K 27” spec’d with:

- i7 4.2 GHz Quad-core
- Radeon Pro 580 8GB
- 64GB DDR4 (2400MHz)

I have the opportunity to buy a 2019 model (5K 27”) with

- i5 3.7 GHz 6-core
- Radeon Pro 580X 8GB
- 64GB DDR4 (2667 MHz)

Aside from being compatible with Sonama, is there any other real benefit in upgrading?

I have been offered the 2019 for £800

I am confident I could sell my 2017 for similar money.

So, aside from the time to move machines around and deal with the sale of mine - It would be a small cost/free upgrade.

NO.

I would not buy ANY iMac now with a fusion drive.
NOT ONE.
Too many of them are destined for "early failures".

In 2023, you shouldn't buy ANY Mac unless it has an SSD.

2017 to 2019 isn't a "big enough jump" anyway.

What you should really be looking at is the m2pro Mini and a good 4k display.

For zero monetary cost, only labour cost, you will get 2 extra real cores on the CPU, and a newer LCD panel.
I would go for it.

I can't imagine anyone willing to pay that for a 2017 imac with a fusion drive.... and no... don't get another fusion drive those are the worst ever... Fishrrman already said it and I wholeheartedly support that.

I went from imac 2015 27 5k to a mini M2 with a good 4k screen and it is awesome... wouldn't trade it for a slightly newer imac.
