One of the things that I enjoy seeing on Macrumors, is what people can do with the various cameras we now have access to within the iOS ecosystem. I had a chance to take the iPad Pro 10.5 and the new 11 out for a bit of a photo walk, and wanted to share some of my photo and video results.

Overall, as a freelance professional photographer, I have to say that taking pictures with an iPad is extremely awkward, and almost embarrassing. I had quite a few odd looks as I walked through the trail system with two iPads, sometimes holding 2 up at the same time to take syncronized video. But, I just muddled through it and got some sample images to share.

With the exception of overall color temperature, differences between the two cameras aren’t as extreme as I expected, nor as bad as some posts on MacRumors projected overall. I do see some issues in really low light with the lack of OIS on the newer iPad, however, I think it does fine for the types of general photography many will do with these devices.

Video on both are decent, though I have to admit the OIS on the 10.5 is far better at handling walking around as compared to the 11.

I am actually quite impressed with the cameras on both of these devices, having never really used an iPad for photography.

Anyone else taken shots they like / wish to share?

Thanks for taking the time to put that together. That’s a very nice comparison.

I was going to post a photo I took with my iPP 11, documenting where we encountered someone “shining” deer, but I’d have to upload it to a photo sharing site and I’m too lazy to do that. Wasn’t a particularly scenic area since there was a stand of dead pine trees (Southern Pine Beetle) and logging debris.

I found it interesting how differently someone can take pictures with an iPad as compared to a camera or even a phone. You can really get somewhat nit picky with angles as you more or less see them in large format while you are taking them.

As far as uploading photos, you can use the “upload a file” button here on macrumors and attach a shot or two inside a post. In some cases you will need to reduce the file size a bit, but it is nice to know how to do it for other types of posts.
