When I opened my 2021 12.9 iPP, I took out my 2018 one to do some comparing. Well I am no longer a happy camper, is my 2018 display defective?

SO I opened the Notes app - top one is 2018.... They are set the same.... True Tone off, night mode off, 100% brightness on both.

Now I understand peoples reaction to me having it at 100%. I will definitely have to turn down the 2021 - it hurts my eyes too its so bright. SO is my 2018 defective? Will Apple do anything about it? It might have been this way for a long time and I just did not notice it before. It will all of a sudden dim the screen as well and not get brighter.

When I looked at a 2020 12.9 on display at Best Buy a few days ago (confirmed True Tone and Night Shift were off), it was very yellow compared to an 11” sitting next to it. My 2018 12.9 definitely didn’t look like that.

Again this is a fine example of “iPad screen lottery”

I returned around 4-5 iPad Pro 2018 11” when they first came out, and finally got a good screen, Apple QA has turned from fantastic to an utter shambles! I suppose they make the money from people reading horror stories and then buying AC+ and never actually using it

That is wild @Momof9 -- I'd have guessed TrueTone was on for the top one and off for the bottom one. The bottom looks MUCH, MUCH better. Yikes! I have a 2018 11" but with TrueTone off I have a bluish white screen, definitely not yellowish like that. Even when I turn TrueTone on, it's "warmer" but not so yellow. That stinks :(

This is pretty common on iPhones nowadays (including my 11 Pro to a much lesser degree) but first time I’ve seen it on a iPad. If i compare my 3rd gen 12.9 it has much nicer whites than the iPhone.

with True Tone on it is way darker yellow....

my iPhone 11 Pro Max is very white as well

Anyone guess what Apple will do if anything? I don't know how much I could get out of it???

Return it if you don't like it.

Definitely try and return it, you’ll never know if you don’t try.

Hmm for me the iPhone always takes on some drastic yellow and warm colors with true tome In certain lighting. iPads have always managed it better.

I think some here are confused. The OP can't return a 2018 iPad to Apple because she just now noticed the screen is yellow. If she has AC+ on the device she can try making a claim on it although Apple will probably rebuff.

Its always an issue with iPads. Had bad yellowing on half the screen of an iPad Air 1 that I returned after a few days. First pro 10.5 I bought had all kinds of issues. It gave me a headache and just didn’t look right. Returned it waited a few months and bought another one. Screen was perfect on that one until the white spot issue. The screen on my 2021 pro 11 seems good.

Well I guess mine has a warmer tint lol. So there’s probably not a way to fix it?

swap it or live with it

if you’ve used it for years without issue dont see why it would be now

I understand if you just bought it and find It jarring but

I only noticed it next to the new 2021
If it hasn’t bothered you until you got your new M1 mini led beast, then it’s most likely a non issue 🙃

Most likely a good thing to show you how good this mini led screen is on this M1 power house of a iPad 😎👌
