I'm trying to use the new Mini with Apple's TB3 to TB2 adapter, into an LG Thunderbolt 2 display.

No dice.

Is there something I'm supposed to do, or enable?

Are you sure the display is connecting over Thunderbolt and not Mini DisplayPort? I have supported several of the Ultrawide LGs, and they work fine over DisplayPort connected to 2013 Mac Pros, so you may have better results going from USB-C to DisplayPort instead of trying Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt 2-3 adapter does not support Mini DisplayPort video at all.
Something like this cable should work: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-USB-C-Supporting/dp/B01J6DT070

Yeah it's Thunderbolt. I used a previous PC this way for years (obviously without the adapter).

So the solution was... unplug and plug in the cable after it booted. Now it's fine, but previously when booting it wouldn't find the display. Low tech solution!
