Hi,
my 2018 MacBook Pro A1990 discharges within a week or so if I just close the lid. I've had a new battery installed that shows as "normal" in the battery settings.
I've disabled screen time sharing across devices and OneDrive that were listed as power hogs online.

Surely it's not natural for a full battery to discharge so quickly when the lid is shut?

Thanks,
Paul

you turn it off or you let it „sleep“, „hibernate“, or „safe sleep“? (Btw. what macOS version?) can you open a terminal and report the output of:

pmset -g | grep hibernatemode

here?

newer versions of macOS support hibernate mode 0, 3, and 25. If not set, you should use sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 25 and check how long the battery last when you store the MBP somewhere.

Then again, it is a 6years+ old laptop so a week ”sleeping” time is not bad at all. If the battery discharges in that time intervall while the MBP is powered off - check the health of the battery.

Hi,

its hibernate mode is apparently 3, it's running latest Sequoia and the battery is 2 months old and indicates "normal".

Thanks for your response, I just don't get the feeling that it's trying very hard to save energy when it's closed. There don't seem to be very many settings to get it to be more frugal with power if it's just lying around for a week or so.

Thanks,
Paul
