I feel weird posting this because I have owned a Mac since 1996 when I was 8 years old. I grew up using a PowerMac 6100 and then got an iMac in 1999 before going through Powerbooks and MacBook Pros. I currently use a MBP early 2011 top of the line model, but with the screen beginning to die and the machine slowing down, I am beginning to consider getting a new machine. For the first time in my life, I am considering getting a PC.
I don't use my home laptop for work. I mainly use it for internet, email and financials. I do like playing the occasional game like Starcraft, Heroes of the Storm, Half Life 2, but nothing too powerful although I haven't really looked at new games recently.
I like the new MBP's with the Vega chips, but it will run me $3100 and from what I am reading, the new MBPs likely will not last us the 5-8 years the older models would. I'm also looking at the Thinkpad X1 E and the Dell XPS 15. It seems like all of these are about the same machines and all would be able to handle games when I wanted to play them.
Anyone have experience with using both? My biggest holdup would be leaving the Mac ecosystem. I own an iPhone, Watch, iPad and Apple TV. Maybe it's just worth spending the extra $1200 to stay in it.
