Hello!

I'm looking at purchasing a 27" 2019 iMac with a 512gb SSD.

I'm reading conflicting information online about whether or not it is possible to add a 2.5" SSD to the iMac even with the Apple SSD included. Some websites say that it is not possible and others say that there still is the original SATA slot where the normal fusion drive would be.

I would love to add either a 2TB or a 4TB SSD if that's possible in the SATA spot.

Does anyone know if it's possible to add a SATA ssd to whether the regular HDD would be or is that spot taken up by the included SSD?

Thanks in advance!

Update: I asked an authorized Apple repair shop and they said that you can add a secondary internal drive even if you have an Apple SSD for the iMac.

EDIT: For me this is awesome as I don't need to pay the heavy cost for a larger Apple SSD when I'm perfectly fine with a SATA III SSD that costs half the price.

Faster, easier, cheaper, SAFER (because you don't open the iMac and void your warranty):

Buy a USB3 SSD and plug it in.
Done.
Read speeds of 430mbps.

If you want a little more speed, get one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...c8ce393475be4d7e5110949fb7b00f&language=en_US

... and then put one of these into it:
https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-1TB-...ords=nvme+ssd&qid=1554254033&s=gateway&sr=8-5

That will give you about 900mbps.

If even that isn't fast enough for you, buy a Samsung X5 thunderbolt3 drive and plug it in.
That will be far FAR FAR faster than ANY -internal- SSD you could install.
