Hi,
I am having trouble connecting any pair of headphones (AirPods, Sony, etc.) to my iMac. Once I get them connected the quality tends to be quite bad. The best analogy is you turn to the wrong "station" on the radio.
I am able to fix these issues in the very short term via restarting, SMC/NVRAM reset, bluetooth debug, run maintenance scripts, plugging in and taking out wired headphones, etc.. However, the issue comes back after 5 minutes.
I notice that when the problem arises it says in the "Sound Settings" (the selected device has no output controls). When the headphones are working fine, I can see the controls (to move to the left/right headphone for sound).
Any advice? I seem to have tried everything.
I have a 2019 iMac 27 Inch. I installed my own RAM (40GB). I am on 10.14.5 (18F132).
Thanks,
