My imac 2019 has been running really strange lately. 10-27 I was on the phone with Apple Support all day. End result was my hard drive was wiped and I lost everything because my Time Machine wasnt working. I lost everything and my computer was still acting VERY slow. I had uploaded to Sonoma when all of this started. So Apple Support didnt help. I made an appt at the Genius Bar and was told I should just buy a new computer as it was being announced that day. No help whatsoever. So I was out of town and now back and computer is still very slow and freezing etc. I found a thread to run the Etre Check. This is what was found. I am not techy. Of course my Warrenty ended on the November 5th. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Performance: Poor
Problem:
Computer is too slow

Description:

M

DER freezes ALL the time or I get a grey screen. I lost all of my docu

ments due to apple support a few weeks ago and apple genius basically

told me this computer is jink and I should buy a new one. Meanwhile my

2009 is a tank and still runs ALL of my design software I just can’t

update anything or sync anything with it. Very frustrating. If I didn’

t dislike Bill Gates so much I would consider a PC and windows based d

evice. This computer has NEVER been up to Apple standard as I have bee

n using them since the late 90s.

You have failing Fusion Drive. It’s all right there in the report. Your options are replace the Fusion Drive with an SSD or boot from an external disk, preferably an external SSD.

Since “you are not a techy” by your own admission, call an Apple Authorized Service Center near you and ask how much to replace the Fusion Drive with an SSD. For a “techy” do it yourselfer, this is $150-200US upgrade.

Like @Bigwaff pointed out, you have a failing drive, and that lines up with the behavior you are seeing.

I would just get an external USB3 SSD and install the OS and everything on there and run with it.

My daughter had an older iMac I setup this way and she used it a couple years with no problems.
