Tried support, no dice. Wired or wireless, it shows connected but will not connect to the internet. What could cause it? Remedies?

My first step is usually to power cycle your router, and restart your Mac.

"Connected"?
Open your System Preferences, then the Network pane.
If you are using an Ethernet connection, do you see Status: Connected ?
What IP address is listed in that pane?
Router address?
What setting do have in "Configure IPv4:"?
Unless you have a special use case, that setting will usually be "Using DCHP"

When I was hard wired and wireless, both show connected. It seems to be sending, not receiving.

What about the other settings, some listed in my post above?

Is there any change to your connection, after trying a power reset of your router?

Is your internet connection OK on another device?

Everything works fine connected to the router.
Both router and iMac has been rebooted.
I did notice VPN listing which is part of a VPN I have. It's not activated unless I turn it on.

Does "everything works fine" mean that other devices connect to internet with no problems, but your iMac still does not load web pages...?
(I am trying to find out if you get IP addresses that should work...)

Follow up, I deleted the VPN in connections and everything came back up. I have not been having an issue with that.
