I have a 2019 27inch i9 arriving this week. I had a 32Gb crucial memory upgrade in my amazon basket but as I’ve come to order it’s no longer available.

I was wondering what people’s experiences are with other ram providers and online stores are. Where is best to buy from and does quality differ between different brands?

thanks in advance.

The Crucial memory with official support for the new iMac have model no. CT2K16G4S266M which correctly is out of stock everywhere at the moment.

However, model no. CT2K16G4SFD8266 is said to work just as well by many on here (search the forum for model no.) and available on Amazon. These have the exact same specs, but weirdly only have official support for 2018 Mac mini according to Crucial.

I'm currently using the Crucial CT2K16G4SFD8266 (64GB total for almost 6 months with zero issues). Kingston HyperX Impact makes good RAM as well, always used over the years with never any issues. Just make sure the specs match what you need. People have mentioned Timetec Hynix as well, personally I have never used them so I can't say for sure how good they are.

I'm not 100% sure whether the 2019 iMac can handle 32 GB per SODIMM slot.

The max addressable memory is 64 GB, with 4 x 16 GB

Then you also have to put at least two SODIMMs in, to benefit from interleaving, e.g. the base config is:

Slot 0, bank 0: 4 GB SODIMM
Slot 1, bank 1: empty
Slot 2, bank 0: 4 GB SODIMM
Slot 3, bank 1: empty

Make sure the same type is used in each bank.

So:

Slot 0, bank 0: 4 GB SODIMM
Slot 1, bank 1: 32GB
Slot 2, bank 0: 4 GB SODIMM
Slot 3, bank 1: empty

Likely won't work, or will affect performance.

Just buy 2 x 16 GB and do this:

Slot 0, bank 0: 4 GB SODIMM
Slot 1, bank 1: 8 GB SODIMM
Slot 2, bank 0: 4 GB SODIMM
Slot 3, bank 1: 8 GB SODIMM

For the rest, the Samsung specs look ok (2666 MHz, CL19, 1.2V, unbuffered)

I had the same problem with my new i9 iMac. Crucial were useless and wouldn't confirm when stock will improve. After a tonne of searching, I found BT had stock of the crucial 16 GB chips and these have worked perfectly for me.

That said, stock is dwindling. There were over 150 of these when I bought a few days ago. Now just 25.

Crucial has some supply issues. For more than a week, 8 GB and 16 GB iMac compatible modules are out of stock.

It's been a bit longer than that! The issue is more with their inability to confirm as one of the countries largest memory suppliers, when stock was likely to improve.
