I know the tech specs online say the new iMacs only support up to Bluetooth 4.2, but the actual machine appears to suggest Bluetooth 5.0 support (LMP version 9).

How might we be able to directly test in the real world whether the new iMacs support Bluetooth 5.0 or not?

It very well could be compatible with Bluetooth 5.0 but just that it was not certified in-time for launch. This happens with phones more commonly e.g. HTC U11.

Would love to get confirmation on this!

Would be great if they could upgrade it after the fact via software update. I think they did that once before with N WiFi or something when they missed the certification but included the hardware.

I wonder if in this case that software update would be just updating the tech specs on the website.

Wow thats fantastic news to hear. Can anyone else confirm this? It will be another week for me to receive my iMac

I had to verify it but MacOS used to have a version next to LMP and HCI. Now it appears to be by HCI.

HCI Version 5.0 (0x9).

Chipset is the same in the 2018 MBP w/ TB that advertises BT 5.0. My MBP w/ BT 5.0....

LMP Subversion is different aside from that it looks the same.

With a BT 5.0 iPhone set to BT tether would we be able to see any difference in performance?
