Hi,
I think i am clutching at straws but my partners IPad suddenly switched off and the screen was totally black.
I have tried all ways of restarts etc but to no avail And have tried plugging it into my Imac but there is no response at all.
The battery was charged to 82% and she was using a drawing App and it just switched to the black screen.
The annoying thing is the IPad has been kept in a case since day one and is in pristine condition and has been really well looked after.

It is out of guarantee and no Apple Care so would i be right in thinking it is now toast as it looks as though something internal has
malfunctioned. If it is a case of a battery replacement then that wont be so bad but if i take it to a repair shop i could be told it needs this and that to be repaired which could turn into a costly repair
The IPad is the 2019 7th Gen Model A2197 IOS 15.0.2

Does anyone have any advice please

Regards Adrian

Try DFU mode ? Google the steps. If you actually restore the firmware it will be wiped though.

Edit: Try recovery mode first. If you haven't done that already. Again, easy to Google the steps.

Thanks i have tried recovery mode and no change. I have just tried DFU mode and no response and the IPad seems totally dead.
Thanks for the suggestions

Yes i might just do that.
I took it to a local guy who does repairs etc and he said it is totally dead and cannot be fixed.
I have had a few iPads which i have passed on to relatives after i have upgraded to newer ones and all of them are still going strong even the most early ones are being used by the grand children for learning etc and none have had an issue regarding power etc.
I don’t suppose Apple will do anything regarding he issue as it is out of warranty and that really is the advantage of AppleCare when you look at things but then again you don’t expect it to totally fail after a couple of years either.

Definitely give apple a call. Especially if there’s no signs of any physical or water damage, you may have some luck getting some help from them.

Another vote for calling Apple. At this point, you have little to lose and everything to gain by doing so! I have a 7th Gen like yours, and given similar circumstances, I would definitely call.
Thanks I will give them a call

I will call them as there is certainly no damage etc and its mystifying as to why it just went black

Definitely surprising. I’ve got 6 iPads in my house, my mom also has a 5th gen. Our oldest one is a 2nd gen, basically useless for anything but it still works lol
