It's very likely the next gen of iPad Pro's will be announced next month (if the historical pattern follows). I have a 2018 12.9" iPad Pro which I'm super happy with. I'm having trouble imagining what could be included in this year's refresh that could cause me to upgrade. It's likely the new cameras on the iPhone 11 Pro's will be also in the new iPads which is not compelling at all for my use case. I don't take pictures/videos with my iPad really. Faster processor is likely as well, but considering I don't have performance issues on my 2018 model, that's not super compelling. What else could there be?

I think that its not going to update next month

The fall 2019 refresh is expected to be light, in anticipation the more significant upgrades (ToF, 5G, mini LED) next year. It just needs to be compelling for non-iPad owners, including current Yoga, Surface, and Latitude users.

I doubt it'll be a major upgrade.

How certain are you iPads next year will have mini-LED screens? If true, this would be an enormous technological leap, and well worth waiting for.

MiniLED is probably 2021 for the iPad Pro, according to Ming Chi-Kuo.

And don't confuse MiniLED with MicroLED.

I’m willing to bet this will be a smaller update... Especially since we just got a major redesign last year.

I’m thinking:

- Faster Chip (even though the current iPad Pro 2018 chip is still incredibly fast)

- Better cameras (perhaps 3 cameras but maybe just 2)

- Spacial Audio and Dolby Atmos like iPhone 11 models (as an iPhone 11 Pro Max owner, I can tell you it sounds fantastic)

- Perhaps a brighter screen for better HDR

- Better battery life with new more efficient chipset

- Maybe add haptics...?

I can’t think of anything else. In fact, I’d be kinda surprised if this gets its own event. Unless Apple really is planning that rumored 16” MacBook Pro (which would make an October event worthy) I think apple may just go the press release route.

Either way, I think I’ll keep holding on to my 2018 model.

Dolby Atmos is almost guaranteed to come.

Haptic engine is almost guaranteed not to come. Technical issue as surface is way too big.

according to the last 5 years (historical pattern) this year is a year that an october event isnt planned . it will more likely get refreshed in the spring event

idk guys, the 2018 ipp is a beast and with ipados makes it feel like a ipad . the rumors are the triple camera and the A13 chip . sounds like a minor spec upgrade, more like a S type upgrade . its not enough for me to justify upgrading from the 2018 . ill see what the next refresh after the upcoming one has in store, i cant think of any way it can be better other than reducing the bezles .

if apple made a 15' -17' ipad pro, id buy that sucker immediately . that and a mini with face id

what i really want is like a coffe table or desk with a built in ipad screen .

As has been mentioned many times before, this is never a good reason for an update not to happen. With a new 2019 model, Apple will be targeting people who do NOT own the 2018 iPad Pro models.

Because so many are saying there won’t be an update... we’ll get an update this fall.
I'm hoping to be able to fight any urge to buy a 2019 fall update and get the 2020 or 2021 update if I need it or it’s compelling enough.
Like Micro LED (unlikely) but also 6-8GB RAM, true 120hz refresh rate when watching movies, improved HDR and ProMotion, higher PPI, Dolby Atmos, 700-800nits brightness, 7075 aluminum for durability and it looks cooler, 4K FaceTime camera, (back cameras are not needed.)

So, is it at the point where I should just go ahead and buy last year's iPad Pro?

I’ve been a proponent of just going ahead and purchase the 2018 iPP... if you can get it at a discount. I didn’t see the need to wait for the not-yet announced iPP when the latest one is great.

I mean, I understand the purpose of avoiding buying anything near the end of cycle. I’ve had my iPP for almost a year... and if a closest friend asked me what they should do? I’ll suggest the same.. Buy one now at a discount.

Regardless of what they do for the 2020 iPP, I won’t be updating. The only thing that might peek my interest is a OLED screen, but I feel that’s a couple years away.

I feel like the ipad pro line for myself has stagnated so much.

my ipad always ends up being 60-80% of the time a portable netflix machine and ideally we need an improvement in blacks and contrast to push people like me to upgrade. the only feature i truly like is the high refresh rate screen and smaller bezels.
