My 2019 16" mbp currently ha a battery health of 81% and does not last as long as I would like

I had chatted with apple prior to making the 1.5 hr trek to the apple store and they said that a battery could be replaced even if not saying "service battery" or under 80%

Lo and behold, I go to the store and they all me that the $249 battery replacement price is only applicable for if under 80% and that if I wished to get a new battery, it would involve a top case replacement and be around $700 to have done

This was shocking to me.. That is damn near the price of a new MacBook air

Does this resonate with anyone? I was hoping I could have a new battery for the $250 price, which was already pricy imo

It's been posted here numerous times that the $249 Apple battery replacement was only honored when the battery had dropped below 80% of "original capacity".

Although I've never had it done, I'm going to take A GUESS that they might offer it earlier, IF the battery in question was showing signs of "swelling up".

If you've got a battery that's at 81%, and if yours shows no swelling, than you'd best wait until it's down to 78-79% and try again...

I just had my iPhone battery replaced at 84% health at the same apple store at the same time they denied my replacing of the mbp battery at 81% health

The website that show the estimates have the same wording and I do not understand why they are handed differenly

What about iPads? are they able to be replaced if not under 80% like phones apparently or do they reject like they do for mbp's?

You can report the question as "performance is worse than before" and go to the store and tell them maybe that's because of the poor battery, this may work.
