Well, today when I went to login to my 2020 iMac, it was crazy-files speedily opening then closing, one right after the other. I couldn’t ge it to shut down. Eventually I just held the button. However, it would not start back up. All I heard was a “click”. IMO, that is not very promising. Wish I could remember when I last backed it up. I‘m pretty sure it was during the past week. I don’t back up everyday because I don’t work on it every day………

Just venting…….I’m worried about that click……….

Try this:
1. Press the power on button
2. IMMEDIATELY HOLD DOWN these keys (to boot into internet recovery):
Command-OPTION-R
Keep holding them down.
If you connect via wifi, then enter your password.
3. Do the internet utilities load? (be patient)
4. If they do, open disk utility
5. IMPORTANT: go to the view menu and choose "show all devices".
6. On the left, click the line that represents your internal drive (Macintosh HD Data) and try "first aid".

What kind of report does it give you?
