Still chugging along with my 2018 iPad 9.7, using more and more each day and realizing I would like to get an upgrade done soon, not completely sold on the iPad pros after sticking with basically the same soc again this year. I was curious though if the iPad Air still has a shot of coming out this year or not. My kids have the air 3 and they love them, definitely a smoother experience over my A10 powered machine which does stutter here and there with normal usage.

Im not in a big rush and don’t mind waiting a bit more if new gens will come out still this year.

I was thinking about the Air recently too but will they put in a chip that’s quicker than the one in the Pro? Not sure personally.
I’d probably aim to get a Pro myself especially with the extra RAM the new ones have.

I understand the urge to upgrade to a new shiny device just as much as the next guy, but are you really running into a performance wall with the A10? I own the 2018 iPad and it's just a breeze with everything I throw at it. There are reasons to upgrade (some more valid than others) but I would argue that day to day performance for most use cases isn't one of them.

I own the 2018 iPad and think the A10 is fine, but would have loved to have 3GB RAM as the 2019 model. If I upgrade, I will just buy whatever entry level iPad will come out. But it will not be until late 2021 that I do that. I don't see the need to constantly upgrade. An iPad should last me at least 4 years. Going by the new iPhone SE and MacBook Air, I think all entry level Apple products will be killer value from now on.

I don’t think that the Air is a line that’s going to be updated every year. Nor the Mini.
I think probably early 2021 for the whole lineup. iPhone for sure this year. iPad pro perhaps with upgraded CPU. Not that rare that Apple would do a minor update early in the year, and later in the year do a full upgrade. Getting that LiDAR out for developers was the most important thing for Apple.

It is rare. They’ve only done it once before with iPad 3 -> 4. Not unprecedented though.

I think they did it early on with iMacs too. Okay, so maybe rare wasn't that great of a word choice, but Apple has done it a couple of times.

I have yes, especially when receiving notifications while using another app or game, it definitely stutters. Biggest one is when im playing grid Autosport, I’ll get a big stutter right before the notification appears. After that it seems to stumble for a bit after that trying to catch up almost.

it’s not horrible by any means in day to day use, but it’s definitely there when I’m using it a bit more heavy. My worry with the current pro line up is the next gen is going to jump from the A12 to the A14 series and I just spent over a grand on a chip that’s a couple years old now.
