This week after updating to 14.2 ive noticed that my iPad wont change when plugged in. Most of the time it will after a couple of minutes plugged in but other times it wont until ive unplugged several times. Ive tried different chargers, cables, and ive made sure nothing is in the port. Im thinking this is a software bug as when i tried to restore it, it started charging right away In DFU mode. Ive made an appointment with the Genius Bar and I’m going to see what they say. Has anyone else been having this issue?

I have had charging issues like that on my iPad Air 2 for quite some time. Not sure if it is optimized charging, or something is wrong with it.

I took my iPad to the Genius Bar and they restored it to the GM iOS 14 and the issue was resolved but replaced my iPad for good measure. Since then I haven't put the beta back on my iPad and likely won't until iOS 15 betas. With yours being an iPad Air 2 its way more likely that the battery is just flat worn out and the device cant charge it properly

Thanks. That is possible. Do batteries with issues have this type of charging behavior? My friend has an appointment at Best Buy to have them look at her phone. She has asked me to come with her. I wonder if I could bring my iPad along and have them look at it?

On the off chance that it could just be a battery optimization thing, I am going to see if changing my charging behavior will affect my battery issue.

They could have that issue but ive never seen it in person. its more likely an iOS issue than a hardware issue. One way to test is to put the iPad into DFU mode then plug it in. If it charges then right away then its not a hardware issue. As for Best Buy I dont know how their tech support system works as Ive never used them. I recommend that you take it to an Apple Store if you have one close by.

Thanks. I will try the DFU mode and see how it charges.

The closest Apple Store to me is over an hour away.
