So my 2020 M1 Macbook Pro stopped accepting a charge the last time i used it. I stupidly finished using it and shut it down thinking that the process of shutting it down and booting back up might fix it. Next time i went to use it, it was toast. It will not accept a charge or turn on. My macbook charger will charge my iphone and an ipad so i eliminated that I am thinking it's either the usb-c ports (neither work), the charging mechanism in the macbook, or the battery itself.

My question is, if the battery is toast, would that cause this? I come from Windows laptops where even if the battery doesn't work, it'll at least turn on.

If there is a brick n mortar Apple Store nearby, make an appt with the genius bar and let them have a look at it.

Might be the battery.
Might be something else.

It is actually a proper apple charger???
I mention it because some third party chargers in my experience will not charge a completely depleted machine. I think they go down bellow the cut off point that it recognises .
Anyway, I've seen this on several machines so if by chance it is a third party charger which works perfectly well normally, it's still worth finding a genuine apple mac charger and trying that as it really does make a difference if the machine is totally drained.

Double check the USB-C cables you are using to charge your Mac. Do you use the same cables and power adapter that came in the box, or a third party?
Do you use a power strip or surge protector plug that has a USB-c port on it?

Test various cables and see if they work. Looks inside any of the Thunderbolt 3 ports on your Mac and pick out any debris carefully with a tweezer or SIM card ejection device. Run Apple diagnostics, follow steps here and look up which code you get if it’s positive that you have a hardware issue. Unlike an iOS device this feature in macOS can thoroughly check which hardware or drivers are faulty or blown out. If you are uncomfortable trying these steps or if the Apple Diagnostics code and message says that it requires service from an Apple authorized service provider or Apple Store, please contact Apple Support and get a Genius Bar reservation, your MacBook Pro will need to be checked out by a technician. Let the Genius taking care of your Mac know about all the steps and issues you did to troubleshoot your MacBook Pro 💻. Thanks 😊 and have a great day.

Hah hah it's not easy to run diagnostics if it doesn't start!! A great thing about Apple is their service ...
Understandable, it cannot get any AC power given it cannot charge. Highly recommended that the charging port and/or the battery needs a replacement; did you have an opportunity to contact AppleCare to arrange an appointment for the Genius Bar and get your Mac checked out by the Genius? Do you have a Time Machine backup done recently? This is useful in an event the Mac must be wiped out through Recovery or Disk Utility, and you get an Express Replacement (if your Mac is covered under AppleCare +).

It's hostflakepro who has the computer problem! But thanks for assisting.
