Does MacBook Air retina 2020 have terrible ghosting and awful text smearing like mbp 16?
Is it possible to share experience?

It's probably the same panel as the 2018 and 2019 model? I haven't heard any complaints about that (other than low brightness before the firmware update boosted it).

So Calif
I don't know what people are talking about - I can't see any issue with my 16" MBP screen - it's better than my non Retina 2012 MBP I am coming from.

Actually I love the colors, depth and resolution on the newest Mac display.....

if you use your mbp as statik image/portrait viewer, there is not any problem but basically if you scroll a web page you will notice terrible smearing texts look like terrible blurried. Because the display is only 60 hz(cheaper notebooks start from 72hz) and mbp 16 has the worst pixel response time in all macs. So mbp 16 display is one of the worst displays on planet to view dynamic items

Hmmm I don't see any smearing or blurriness on my 16" MBP.

Guess you will not have to buy the new Air then.

Easy peasy...

just scroll this page and try to look at texts at the same time or open a page with images and scroll and look at the images at the same time

I understand that some people consider this an issue and I respect that. I have a 16" and a 13" MBA (arrived Tues.) ... I've never checked either for smearing/ghosting, as the screens on both look great to me.

If there is some sort of objective, universal, and standardized test to check, let me know and I'd be happy to run on both and post results.

I guess I am not seeing what you apparently can see.

Is it a flicker or page refresh issue ?

I am looking at my 16" MBP and my externally connected 27" Thunderbolt display and can NOT see any smearing or blurriness on either display.

Even my work 15.4" Retina MBP looks the same.

The only screen that does not look as sharp when scrolling is my NON retina 2012 13" MBA....

if it is possible, i request a favor from you. If your external display have 120 or 144hz refresh rate. Could you please make a video record on both monitors during scrolling in same web page and upload it (not in mirror screens mode)

Can you tell me how to change refresh rate on my monitor ?

I don't see an option - take a look at both display settings I have currently:

View attachment 902030

The refresh rate option has to appear when you press scaled button while holding alt/option button or in some monitors it is calibrated directly with the buttons on device

My subjective take, and I have been heavily critical of the 16" mbpro for this-

Very similar to LY MacBook air, probably the same display. Its a moderate speed display, not near as much smearing nor ghosting. This seems to be a downside to the p3 displays with wider gamut and the MBair only has the 100% srgb display.

Here's a link to another of my posts where I compared several models for this. Again, 2020 MB air same as 2019 (best of the lot).

I am a 144hz /high refresh addict for desktop PC and it is very noticeable to me.

Right on time- the notebookcheck review. Significantly faster response times than 16" pro confirming my observations.

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Apple...The-best-MacBook-you-can-get-No.460229.0.html

so according to these numbers about pixel response time, i think there are 2 reasons to feel shame for the mbp 16.

1) one of the worst laptop on slow pixel response time on planet (terrible display)

2) a lower state model (MacBook air) has beter display than the premium MacBook Pro 16
