I have this band for a little under a month and the white part is turning yellowish-green. I'm not rubbing my wrist against anything that would mark the band like this - this is the first Apple band I've owned that has discolored which leads me to believe it is a defect. I tried washing it with soap & water - didn't help. I talked with an Apple Support person yesterday and the guy said Apple will not exchange the band being that I already have it about a month - but he offered me to instead pay for a new band - how nice. I refused obviously, why would I want to purchase the same band and throw away another $50? Makes no sense.

I would take it to an Apple Store but of course the closest one is over an hour away 🙄 and they have no stock of this band.

Is anyone else experiencing this discoloration on this specific band? Can anyone recommend a cleaner that will remove this discoloration?

Can you post photos? I have this band and haven’t noticed any discolouration but haven’t worn it very frequently. In terms of cleaning I’ve heard people reporting that Mr Clean Magic Erasers are good but it also removes the top coating on the band. I’ve never went this route though.

Hi - Here are 2 pics - it's only occurring on the top portion of the band...the long bottom piece is just fine.

Wow that’s pretty rough. I’ve worn mine a bit and it hasn’t discolored at ALL. Even if you’ve worn it daily since launch, it’s a new enough band that this shouldn’t be considered acceptable by any stretch of the imagination.

Definitely call up Apple. I wonder if something was wrong with the finish on this one. Considering the other defects we’ve seen so far (pins not aligning, paint job errors, etc...) I wouldn’t be surprised.

Do you use jackets or shirts with long sleeves?

I found out recently blue coloring with my platinum Nike sport band, I have had it for like two years and never had a problem (but I change almost everyday a watchband), until this month that I have used this daily, it appears blue coloring around the edges, like yours.

No long sleeves living in Florida. I've been racking my brain on what could be causing this discoloration. I'm not rubbing my wrist anywhere (I thought maybe when typing at work leaning my wrist on the desk, but I don't rest my wrists that high on my desk). I don't know what it could be other then a defect in this band. Apple didn't care either.

I think one day I'm going to take a drive to my closet Apple Store (over an hour away from me) and see what they do in store. Apple Support over the phone was zero help - the person didn't care at all. All they wanted me to do was pay for another band. I have my receipt and all. I don't get why this is such a big production with Apple. It's a $49 accessory, I'm not looking to exchange a 12 year old MacBook here. 🤷‍♂️

Well, with 2 calls to Apple Support and an hour drive wasted going to an Apple Store and them still refusing to do a simple exchange for the same band I resolved this myself.

Regular soap and water did not work so I took a chance and used Comet cleanser, Clorox Clean-up, CLR Rust Remover, and Greased Lightening to remove the staining...it worked and it did not harm the band itself - the silky finish is still there. It took those 4 cleaners to remove this staining.

Here is the band now:

It's simply amazing to me that Apple refused to do a simple exchange on a watch band that was just released last month. I'll be thinking twice before purchasing any more watch bands from them as this debacle has turned me off quite a bit.

That's a shame. It seems like this batch has had more trouble than usual.

Buy a new one, return the old one - literally just put the old one in the box.

Not seeing the issue myself though and i've been wearing it alot

Glad to hear you were able to clean it. It’s possible that it got stained by something (dark jeans?) without you noticing. I’m not certain what would cause it to discolour green like that due to a fault with the chemical composition of the band itself. Keep an eye and see if it reforms.

Literally having the same issue. Tried soap and water to no avail, even an alcohol prep pad, still nothing. You are not alone! Gonna check to see how long I’ve had the band, but I feel it’s been more than a month.

Yellowish green signals great affection & virtue for really, really small minority groups, such as tiny tribes & historic disingenuous people. Cleaning it with alcohol is also very disrespectful to (especially) native people. Why whitewash it with soap? Where is the empathy people?

Update: received the band on 5/22, chatted with support and they are sending me a replacement band. I’m just under the 30 days!

Apple support can be very hit or miss. Sometimes they will "make things right" with almost no effort and even when they don't have to do anything. Other times, they stand firm on doing nothing even when they probably should. I once had them replace a keyboard on which I admittedly spilled coffee. Fully understanding it was not within warranty, completely my fault, and expecting to pay to replace it, they did it for free. And right now, I'm fighting to get my battery replaced on my MBP for being swollen. Even though there is a campaign for replacement on the model, they said my serial doesn't fall in the range for a free battery replacement.

I know this is not what you want to hear :) but the fact you were able to clean it may just indicate there was nothing wrong with the band and it was exactly as you describe 'staining' (I know you have said you can't think what it is). Why would Apple replace a band that has been stained in some way when used by a customer ?
