With the new Air released, is this pretty much guaranteed? The price difference between the two is way too small now with the 11”. Apple receiving rave reviews on the Air in spite of a price increase makes me think this is the next step.

I don’t think they’ll replace the 11” Pro with the Air because it’s a popular size, but I also find it highly unlikely that they’ll continue at this price point.

I dont mind paying more if it does more. But at this point every iPad does the same thing so the “Pro” name hasn’t meant much more than “Premium” and, without Pro software, in the end you are doing the same thing everyone else is but in a nicer (more expensive) package. And now with the Air then there’s so little that differentiates the Pro.

- Faster Chip (than processors that have already been too fast)
- More RAM (that doesnt properly get used by the OS)
- LiDAR (a feature nobody asked for)
- Wide angle lens (a feature nobody asked for)
- 4 Speakers (slightly fuller sound than Air)
- Modern accessories (now on Air)
- Better screen (now on Air)

For the next models I dont think a spec upgrade will be enough to define a Pro to be a “Pro” so I’m just waiting for Apple software.

I’ll be disappointed if they bump up the price to $899. :(

isn't there also talk of a bigger display? 15" or something?

I will forever waffle between the air 256 and pro 128. Hopefully a sale will put me out of my misery on black friday. :)

Knowing that it's Apple, I hate to admit that I completely see them bumping up the price. I don't see the A14x chip as reasons to raising the price, though the mini-LED panel might. But I also see that price increase being balanced out by so many other factors, such as the R&D of the A14 chip being spread over the Mac line now or the cost of other components going down.

At this point with the Pro line, Apple has no reason to accelerate the tech in it since there is barely any competition other than increased profit. And that, sadly, is the new Apple...

I wonder how much the pricing structure will be affected once ARM based MacBooks are factored in:

$999 MacBook Air
$1399 MacBook Pro 13
$2399 MacBook Pro 16

$599 iPad Air ($899 w/MK)
$799 iPad Pro 11 ($1099 w/MK)
$999 iPad Pro 12.9 ($1349 w/MK)

On some tiers then iPads and ARM Macs are going to be direct competitors so are they going to allow the pricing overlap or are they going to boost pricing to artificially create price gaps.
