So we know by now Apple always does it's little dance of pushing some of the older iPhones out of its official lineup and lowering the prices of those that get to stay.

So what are your predictions for the 2021 lineup?

Mine are

  1. iPhone SE 2020 gets to stay and lowers from $399 to $349. However, 2021 should also be the last year it's in the lineup and the last year Apple has the old iPhone 6 design in its lineup. 2022 is all edge-to-edge.
  2. iPhone Xr is removed from the lineup as no iPhone has ever stayed in the lineup for more than 3 years.
  3. iPhone 11 gets to stay and lowers to $549. 2021 is the last time iPhone 11 will be in the lineup. This would fall in line with Apple launching the SE 3 in 2022-2023 and having it be the Xr/11 design but with an A15 or A16 chip and a few other new features.
  4. iPhones 12 are all removed from the lineup as they are too similar in specs and design to iPhones 13 and will cannibalise iPhone 13 sales. Apple has cut last year's flagship almost every year when a new iPhone launches, so this is to be expected.
  5. iPhone 13 mini launches at $699 and iPhone 13 at $799
  6. iPhone 13 Pro at $999 and iPhone 13 Pro Max $1099

Read some article that because of component price increases and shortages prices may go up for 13. I think at least some 12 models will remain

Apple always finds a way to increase their profit margins. With the strain on supply chains around the world I fully expect this years iPhone lineup to have yet another bump in price. Don't go in expecting same price as last year or else you'll be setting yourself up for disappointment.

I understand what your saying, but when you consider that a device like the Z Flip 3 has gone DOWN in price, using more specialist components like the foldable screen, and the device engineered to be more durable, if Apple increase their prices on the 13 range, people are naturally going to be disappointed as a result. I mean the 'Regular ' iphone went up in price by £100 (11 to 12), so if it goes up in price again then...

I have a feeling iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max model will be discontinued. However iPhone 12 is going to stay.
In my mind, the 11 and 12 are too different to occupy the mid-tier especially considering the $50-$100 price drop we would inevitably see for the 12 if it were to stay in the lineup: Too many would opt for a $599-$649 iPhone 12 if it has the same design and same display as the $699 iPhone 13.

Only way I can see the 12 staying is if the 13 sees a noticeable price hike from $699 to $749-$799 and/or if it's a huge step up in features(value).

A 12 at $649 or $599 could maybe fit as a mid-tier if the 11 was cut entirely. But then the 12 would probably still be too similar to the 13 on key specs and too much value with $50-$100 in savings compared to a 13 at $699 or $749.

Additionally, the X was cut in 2018, the Xs in 2019, and the 11 Pro in 2020. So I really don't see the 12 staying in the 2021 lineup. Too much risk of making the 13 even more underwhelming than it probably will be and would certainly be a new strategy for Apple.

Wildcard option would be Apple cutting both the Xr and 11, keeping the 12 but lowering it to $599-649, and hiking prices for the 13 to $749-$799 (and the 13 Pros in the same manner).

So it would be a SE 2020, 12, 13 and 13 Pros for the 2021 lineup.

I don't expect it. But the chip shortages could cause something like this.

Apple probably pays more in legal fees and lawyers than they do for components
