Just got an 11’ Pro M1 to replace my 2018 11’. After copying files from the older iPad I did some comparison, and noticed that on 2021 screen seems to be a bit warmer (exact same settings).

Probably not an issue, and I can notice difference on the white background mostly. Actually, when I compare my iPhone 11 Pro to the 2021 iPad - the screen on the iPhone seems to be even more warm. If there was no side by side comparison I would have not noticed it at all most probably.

…Just might be an interesting fact.

I know this is a silly question, but: Is true tone and night shift turned off on the 2021? That might be why it appears warmer. If not, they might have changed the color calibration from the 2018 and it’s nothing to worry about :]

True tone is ON, and Night Shift - Off on both iPads. The settings are exactly the same after copying the iPad from the older device.

I think I remember this (similar) story from times when iPhone 4 came out already. It seemed to me that on the ‘new’ iPhone the display is warmer, and cooler on the ‘old’ one. There were even reports as far as I remember by other people noticing the same as well.

Right side seems to be brighter. Is the white balance similar if you set the brightness the same on both?

Hmm… Strange - I just retested 2 times - with True Tone ON on both devices, and then - OFF on both in a completely dark room (Previously it was still daylight) - and whether with Truetone ON or OFF I cannot really notice much difference anymore (especially with a ‘naked eye’) :)

I guess some sensors just reacted a bit differently in different situations.

New iPad seems a bit brighter.

Lower device in both photos is the 2021 iPad (1st photo - True Tone - ON, 2nd - OFF.

One thing to note is that if your device is getting hot it will dim the display to lower the heat but doesn’t change the brightness slider. I almost returned a device I was just restoring because I thought the screen was dimmer. Once the restore was complete, the brightness magically returned.

Is it caused by the camera during processing?

Comparing new iPP 11” M1 with iPP 10.5” have noticed

Settings: Brightness both set at max, true tone on, night shift off, daylight light next to windows;

The 11” noticeable warmer and maybe because of this doesn't seem as bright, 10.5” definitely looks ‘cleaner’ white, but not ‘blue’ white with just a slight warmth.

True tone off both: things look more equal, with the 11” now with more neutral ‘blue’ clean white, the 10.5” is a hair brighter maybe?

That 10.5” is still a very nice screen. I imagine the differences are about calibration. Both look good, and if not compared less noticeable, but makes me think that true tone is useful for evening reading, and content viewing to turn it off, especially photography for cleaner whites.

So I just opened my new 2021. Can’t compare video, since I don’t have wit wifi. But what I notice is the white. My 2018screen is sort of off-white. Looks a bit darker towards the edge where the pencil connects. Has this happened to others? All the settings above are the same on each device. I will look at it again when I get home and not in car.

This is the issue that I’m having. My 2021 IPP 11 screen is white. My 10.5 screen is not as white but to me the text and videos are sharper on the 10.5. The white is hurting my eyes. I have an appointment with Apple Friday. I will return the 11 and go back to my trusty old 10.5 if my eyes don’t adjust to the 11.

I noticed this too with a new 2021 IPP 12.9 compared to my 2018 IPP 12.9. The newer model IS a tad bit warmer, I prefer the slightly brighter white of the 2018, but at this point not enough to not move up to the 2021 M1 model. It COULD be the sensor, for the 12.9 the screen feels a tiny bit different when scrolling so I think there might be a different olephobic covering on it, so maybe that throws off the light sensor or color a tad.
