Ok, not wanting to go through 253 pages of the cases, sleeves thread, I'd like a quick check on how people are protecting their Macbooks nowadays.
I just got a 14 inch M4 Pro Macbook Pro and would like to give it a bit of protection. Bought a hardcase, but realized it was a bad idea. So much weight added, especially on the top, which might cause issues with the hinges in the future, so off it goes. My next option is a skin. Of course a sleeve is must, and I'll take care of that soon enough, but I'd like a skin not so much for a color or design, but to have additional grip on the surface. Bare Macbook Pros are somewhat slippery, and I want to minimize a close encounter with the concrete.

I used to use Best Skins or something like that. I love them, but apparently they either changed name or went bankrupt, so my current options are:

- Dbrand (Pro: Proven reliability, Cons: No clear option)
- Slickwraps: (Pro: Great wet super mate option, Cons: I've heard some reliability and shipping issues)
- Ultraskinz: (Pro: Good price, looks similar to SW, Cons: Sourced from the UK, so untracked shipping might be an issue. Tracked is expensive)

Any other options I might consider?

I bought one called Invisible Shield, and it's been good. Just a clear wrap, and the film was from 3M. Cuts were precise and it's not noticeable on the MBP.

I chose Glitty (which is not a skin in the way you seem to be describing them) but more like a soft(?) case. They look really great and have rubber "bumpers" for some drop/bump protection. Lots of nice colors and seem very well made. Then I just slip this into a laptop bag with some built-in, internal padding.

I was close to choosing Andar as they too seem premium quality and look great.

I have two questions:
  1. How is the grippyness? Is it better than the bare device? That's my main concern as I don't care much for scratches, but I want to have a firmer grip when handling it.
  2. Is this a dry or wet application?

Grippyness is slightly better than the bare device, but not significantly different. It has done a good job with scratches so far.
