Just browsing Apple's site - prior to today, if you wanted to upgrade RAM in the 21.5" iMac, you were SOL. Now, it says Apple or an authorized Apple repair shop can upgrade the RAM after purchase.

This is good news since I'm fine with 8GB now but what if I get into audio/video editing in a year or so? Now, I can upgrade my iMac's RAM.

:)

Still wish I could upgrade/remove ram and storage drives. I like pulling drives and keeping them when I sell.

Here's the link for those interested: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201191

*Memory isn't removable by users on iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2014), iMac (21.5-inch, 2017), and iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017). If the memory in one of these computers needs to be replaced, contact an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. If you’d like to upgrade the memory in one of these models, an Apple Authorized Service Provider can help.
