21.5 iMac base or 24 iMac base

In the light of the recent problems with the new range of iMacs, I'm tempted to spend the extra £100 to get the base 24" instead. Can anyone confirm if the panel used in the most recent 24" models is an IPS?

As far as I can see the advantages of a 24" are:
less likely to have a problematic screen
better L2 cache
larger hard drive
bigger screen

Disadvantages are:
less slots for future memory upgrade
slower processor
non-backlit display
mouse and keyboard are not wireless

Have I missed anything? Can anyone answer my query on the 24" panel? And which would you go for out of these two?

Yea, it's an IPS panel with CCFL backlight. The screen is bigger but the resolution is almost the same. Get which you like the most because the differences are minimal

IPS or not, I exchanged a 24" iMac three times before getting a refund because each display had a yellow tint and uneven backlighting (left side much brighter than the right side).

The display on my 21.5" iMac shows no such issues. Well worth it, IMO.

Depends on your usage. I would have opted for the 21.5" since it is faster.

Also, as I tend to keep my machines with me for long and try to extract the most out of them, the extra headroom in the RAM department would be a definite plus.

The 24" iMac has 1920x1200 resolution as opposed to 1920x1080 on the 21.5". The screen size/resolution does create a difference. Also 16:9 is not the best option for normal computer work.

If you keep upgrading your hardware in 2-3 years, go for the 24" monstrosity.
