Hi everyone,

I currently own a 21.5 iMac and lately it has not be going to sleep on its own. The screen itself will go dark and the computer will make a couple of click noises as if it were going to sleep. However, the computer does not get to sleep. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Kevin

Are you running any software which could be preventing the machine from going into sleep mode? Programs like uTorrent will often cause this, provided some of your torrents are active.

If not, ensure that all programs are closed and see if that helps.

I think my problem was similar (mine is 27" i7). My screen went dark, but the computer case stayed warm, indicating it never went to sleep. Mine also did not wake properly. Tech support had me create a new user and see if the same issue happens there. I had already done NVRAM and SMC resets (these seemed to temporarily fix the problem), reloaded OSX and repaired permissions. In the end, since I was within 2 weeks, I sent mine back.
