Hello everyone. I have never used an iMac before. I don't want to make the mistake and buy something too weak or too uneccesarry.

I am interested in the 21 inch mostly as a family computer for my wife and I. We would mostly be using the internet, steaming video, minor photo editing, word processing and I would play an occasional game. I don't have a lot of movies of photos that I need to store and don't mind storing stuff on external drives if I am going to view it once every 2 years.

I am looking at the 2017 high end 21.5 4K model($1499)and deciding between the fusion drive, 256 add and 512 ssd. Assuming I am starting with very minimal photos and video, which do you think the best option is? I'd rather not pay the additional 300 to get the 512, but am fine paying the 100 for the 256 but is that too small? Also does the high end 21.5 perform well without any ram upgrade?

Thanks!!

I have the $1499 model with fusion drive. For your described uses and willingness to use external drives, the 256 ssd is fine. I would've done it had I been more patient.
