I have a 2012 Mac Pro 12 Core 3.06GHz with 32MB RAM. I use BootCamp to run Win 7 for gaming.

The computer is continually crashing - the power just goes off and you have to pull the power plug out and reinsert it and it automatically boots.

Main games are AC Odyssey, Destiny 2, Outer Worlds and Bordelands 3.

I have replaced the power supply with a brand new one and put a new video card (GTX 1080) from MacVidCards. Swapped out RAM chips to see if any were faulty. Apple techs had it on their bench for 2 days and it did not fall over. I have tried using just a keyboard and no other peripheral devices attached and still it dies in games. e.g. I talk to Zavala, Ikora or Banshee and it dies.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with it. I would appreciate any helpful advice out there.

Thanks in anticipation.

Can you please enlighten me on the power draw. It had a GTX 1070 that ran flawlessly and I only put the 1080 in because I thought the 1070 had died. I bought a brand new A1289 power supply which Apple techs fitted.

When the machine would boot up after the chime the fans on the 1070 would stop spinning and no video output but you hear the Mac Pro still booting, drives chattering etc.

I used the 6 to 8 pin card supplied by Mac VidCards.

Double check the instructions MVC included with the card. Make sure you power your card EXACTLY as directed. Incorrectly powering it is usually the source of the behavior you've described.

I followed your advice and the steps from MVC.

I replaced the power cable from the logic board to the card and put the old 1070 back in.

The machine booted up and I have played 4 hours in D2 today with no issues.

i will keep the 1080 for another time.

Thank you for taking the time to help solve my problem. It is greatly appreciated. I was about to toss the Mac Pro and buy a PC Gaming Rig.
