It would be nice, but if apple don't put a stop to some developments, the line between PRO and Consumer hardware lines is too blurred and you end up with a development like the ibook & powerbook - where speed and screen size especially the 12" was very little.

Hence the amalgamation and new 13" macbook. They know two similar lines for different markets and wide ranging price tag doesn't work, people simply choose the cheaper option if the differences are so minimal.

A 23" 2.16 core duo imac is too top end and if it ever happens it wont be until the powermacs are replaced with something far more stellar..

Ok, it would be sweet though. Imagine X1600 512 MB GDDR3. (drooling...)
My laptop has Intel GMA/852 16 MB. I can still play Halo. This is why I want better graphics in the iBook/MacBook thing. I do video editing with a desktop with nVidia 5200 128 MB. It's good.

It would be possible to released a 23" 2.16GHz Core Duo iMac if they planned on making the entire line of Pro towers quad-processor machines....there would still be a distinction between the two. On the other hand, the top end iMac would be pushed into a price range that isn't really "consumer" anymore.

I know people say it will use Merom, the new intel powermac, but how about Quad Xeon 2?

i think a 23" iMac is the next part of the evolution of the iMac. i have a 17" and while its great, people keep getting bigger screens for their desktops, not smaller. the specs are up for debate, but its just an eventuality really. sure some people were surprised when they made 20" iMac G4s, but it really is the next part of the evolution of the iMac. now, what would be interesting is if they kept the 17" or just went with a 20" and 23" model. that would be sweet and is probably just wishful thinking on my part. i would think too, that with a 20" and 23" line up they could refine the look of the machine, as to clean up the bezel and shrink down how much of the computer is used under the screen.

Yeah, that bag of poo hanging under the screen, kinda ruins the image of "built-in". I wish it was just a screen. Imagine of the kept the 15" iMac! HA!:D

While consumers are getting larger lcds for their computers..

But i think that apple won't go for the 23" iMac 'til the 23" lcds and larger goes down in price to consumer prices, I think the 23" lcds and above are still Pro price range ..

So within 18 months or so the prices of those sizes of lcds will be @ consumer price level ..

oh i agree that as of right now it wont happen, just that its an eventuality, is all.

although if Apple didin't overcharge for their Displays, then we would see it sooner. the Dell 24" isn't that cost prohibitive.

Yeah, it's sad that you have to pay as much for a display as for a MacMini. I wish they would either reduce the prices even more, or bring back the studio displays...;)

I understand that there won't be a 23" iMac soon, but how about the CineMac?

I know this says G5, but this will probably be Intel. That would be awesome with a CineMac! :D

You know, i kind of hope all these rumors of the video ipod come through and it is an iPod with a full touch screen. Then when they make the iMac to model it they won't need to keep the chin. Imagine how lovely an iMac would look if they cut away even half the chin.

I think you're just hearing speculation on what a 30th Anniversary Mac may possibly be, if they decided to do something for that.

But if Apple was really going to do that, they should just go for the big old 30" iMac. An inch per year! :D

But so far the closest we've come to evidence of this is one MR member treating another MR member's wish list as the truth...
