The morning of preorders, wake up at 4:55 AM PT and open the Apple Store app
Force quit the app from multitasking and re-open repeatedly as time approaches 5 AM

Place order, go back to sleep

Hi everyone. I’m super excited to finally upgrade this year from my iPhone 7. But I’ve never been part of an iPhone launch event before. What’s it like? Do you recommend pre-ordering online to ship to my home? Is that faster than lining up at the store? Any advice or memes are welcome. 😇

Like the above poster said do it through the Apple Store App. Set up your alarm to wake you when sales open.

‘I would never wait outside at a store for hours these days. You can order and have it delivered on opening day In the comfort of your home.

As others have said, best bet is to just order online. If you want it for launch day then you'll have to be quick and place an order within the first 15 minutes or so when sales start.

Place the order through the Apple store app, but also have a tab open on a browser with the Apple store just in case.

Last year Apple had a pre-order reservation thing set up where you could pre-select your device (size, colour etc) and just complete the payment when sales opened to make it a little quicker.

The days of queuing up have sadly gone for the most part (although some still od it). I miss those huge overnight queues!

Back up your old iPhone before giving or selling it away. The delivery service in my country is screwed up because I’ll end up waiting the whole day without and specific estimates on when the new iPhone will arrive. So I’ll book a pickup service at the Apple store itself. The queue isn’t long, usually it takes me about 30 minutes to walk out of the store with the new iPhone.

I prefer to order for pickup at an Apple Store. Then I don't have to wait around for the delivery guy to show up.

I am also planning to buy at launch this year. First time. Are you able to preorder and then do a phone trade in when you pick up? Thanks

They aren't like before. So not that you will miss much.

Nobody lines up anymore. Nobody camps out anymore. Those days are long gone. Have apple store app ready. Pre-order from there. You can either receive release or if you live near apple store pick up that day. That's how I usually do it. Nearest iPhone store is 10 mins away from me. Last iPhone I lined up for was i5S "gold"

Fastest and easiest way to upgrade is from your current phone with the Apple Store app. As others have said favorite what you want in advance. If you want to enroll in the iPhone Upgrade Program they usually even allow you to do a pre-qualification credit check and essentially reserve your phone in advance. You do however need to be on the app the morning of pre-orders to complete literally one last tap of the app to confirm your purchase but at least you don't have to fill out all the other steps as you've done them in advance.

Congratulations on upgrading and be prepared for the madness of pre-order day soon. :)

Looking forward to pre-ordering a gold 14 Pro Max!
I may actually be doing the same! I have a Jet Black 7 but over the past few months have been watching so many videos of the gold 13 Pro, it looks so nice.

Not going for new color this year. Especially if it’s purple…no thanx. I did Sierra blue for 13PM. For 14PM I might do graphite. Haven’t done a darker black/grey iPhone in years. Did good for many years in a row so maybe that again. We shall see finished colors at keynote.

Hope the new color is purple this year. Would be down for that. Did a Sierra Blue this past year and it was gorgeous!! Only thing bad about the iPhone Upgrade Program is that I say goodbye to all the neat colors after a year. :-(

I never had an issue with iPhone Pre Orders. I just order like I would order any other product. No reason to be the first or keep refreshing. But I will advise to order within the first 30mins to get a good date. If you wait too long, your pre order date can be delayed by weeks.

Another option is if you do have your device delivered, you can have it held at a UPS hub and pick it up when they open in the morning. I’ve did that twice for the X and 12 Pro Max. My iPhone was in my hand at 8am. They recently changed the time at my location so I can’t get it until 10am. UPS deliver in my neighborhood in the evening between 5-9pm.

That’s a great tip, thank you!

Remind me what one does when the magic hour hits while one is in a meeting scheduled one year in advance.

Oh damn. Any way a relative or friend can order for you? If not, time to change jobs before the launch!

No relative near where I live and my assistant is in the same meeting. Last year, I was at the DC airport and thought to be caught in the TSA line at 8 am EST but made it to the lounge in plenty of time.
I will need to contemplate asking a 10 minute delay assuming I will have everything in order like last year.

So if it's 5:00 AM and we're not in, we should just keep force quitting and re-opening until the store lets us in?

Yes, that's how it worked for me in the past. However, in the past the app at least for me has usually come up even before the regular website on a computer. If you are doing iPhone Upgrade Program and either enrolling as new (this should be possible - not sure if they do pre-qualification for people not already in the program) or like me upgrading a current phone already in the program you can pre-qualify now by filling out all your loan paperwork and pre-selecting your phone of choice. Once that is all done on Friday morning you literally open up the app and have to click 1 button and you are done. Good luck!
