24" 2.4 Ghz iMac Crashing while alsleep help?

Hello all,

I need some help with my new 24" 2.4 Ghz iMac. This weekend I put together my new iMac the way I liked it with all of the new software, including OSX, Adobe CS3 Design Premium, MS Office 2004 and iWork, I checked for and installed any updates that were available for all of the software immediately after it was installed. I bought the iMac with 1 Gb of ram and then installed a 2 Gb chip from OWC. Everything seems to be working beautifully until the iMac sits for several hours and goes to sleep. When I come back to the computer, it does not wake up and I have to reboot by holding the power on button down for several seconds. It boots back up fine but gives the message that OSX unexpectedly quit with the option to send a report to Apple, which I do. This does not appear to be related to any software that is running because it has done it with no open applications.

Any suggestions on what is going on? Anyone else experiencing this problem? Should I remove the OWC ram and see if that is the culprit?

Yes, I'd start by removing the new RAM and leaving it overnight.

Which chip did you buy? Link?

This may not be helpful but I got "unexpectedly quit" after accessing Software Update… and leaving the iMac to download and install the updates.
When I returned the iMac had turned itself off. After booting I got the UQ dialog. Sleep hassles are common with some Macs (generally Intel Macs).
I've had no further hassles since the updates incident. Maybe I should see what happens with the next SU?

OK folks,

I'm still having this random crash problem with my new iMac. I've removed the OWC 2 Gb RAM chip, set the computer to "never" sleep, reset the PRAM, reset the power management (SWC?) but OSX still is randomly quitting. It has done it several times now while I was working on files in InDesign and Word as well as when it was left alone for several hours. Using iStat Pro, the temps are running in the 45° range for the CPUs, optical drive, HD and 65° for the GPU.

Any suggestions? Those temps seem below design specs but should I up the fan speeds to cool things off a bit?
