If I get the iMac 24" with the 7600 will I really see a graphics performance increase from what i'm using now? The 7600 and x1600 have the same amount of pixel and vertex shader processors but the 7600 is trying to process more pixels because of the bigger screen.

I don't know where you're getting your info (and I haven't personally looked), but the 7600 should have more hardware than the X1600... remember its the mobile version of the X1600.

Regardless, the real question is whether the 7600 will give you enough performance to run at 1920x1200 vs the X1600 at 1680x1050. Unfortunately I don't know the answer, but it would be interesting to know. What I do know is that the 7600 is significantly faster than the X1600, so my guess is 'Yes'. As to whether you will get more frames from the 7600 at a higher resolution, I would have to say No.

Ok thanks. I dont normally play at very high resolutions anyway.

I cant really compare with the 20" imacs with their x1600
but a friend of mine has a 20" pc with a x1600
and it really doesnt stack up against my 24" with the 7600

It comes highly recommended this machine, after two weeks of gaming in both bootcamp and macosx...

now I can play itunes, while playing doom, to me thats great...

I would say from what I've seen of the 7600 so far, it is certainly up to the job. I don't think a single individual will be too disappointed with it's performance in the iMac daddy.

In saying that, I am hoping I can get a stock 24" iMac next March with perhaps a 256MB 7900 instead. I always like to live in hope.

Yes I always hope they will upgrade too :) I'm asking because I think the mac pro is too expensive and the 24" iMac could definitley compete with it. (of course not with the x1900 in the pro) But a beefed up 24" isnt too cheap either. But i'll pprobably get it for christmas or something. Thx guys

don't know about comparisons, but i know it rocks. I only play wow, but I have it at full settings (except AF is x2) and it runs perfectly smooth
