New M1 Max studio going for base model as Good enough for my needs replacing a late 2012 iMac 27”
Using as a family computer mainly office stuff and some photoshop stuff

Would it be worth paying an extra £200 to go out to 32 core GPU?

Love the specs of this thing and should be good for longtime

I doubt it's worth it, looking at the MacBook Pro it seems it offers a bit of graphics performance boost but only in games really.

I cant really compare between Mac Studio vs MacBook Pro - both have different airflow that make huge different right?

Otherwise Apple could've put that M1 Max into Mac Mini's case with same airflow as MacBook Pro!

Thank you I was thinking the same.

I am thinking of this computer as my new home Mac, I really like the new iMac design, but having a home office setup now I'd have to think about fitting it in. I have a nice 28" monitor for work. So the Studio kinda makes better sense and would certainly fit my setup better on my desk. I would expect it to last several years too, so the base spec and maybe spend the money to bump up the storage to a terabyte.

I chose 32c/32GB/1TB. I read some reviews mentioning a difference between 24c and 32c, big enough to be relevant for gaming - so I figured it’d also make a difference for my 3D-centric workflow and multi-monitor setup.

I think I will up storage to 1TB and go with the 24 core.
That's what I did. I really don't think the 24 core GPU is going to be very noticeable for most things. I added to 64GB of RAM, and I expect that will help a couple of things I do.

Here's a really good review of the new MacBook Pros for photographers. For Adobe products he says 24 core is all you need. He explains it around the 33:35 mark on the video.
Studio fast becoming my desired 24" imac alternative choice.

---Edited---

Since joined 2021 imac thread.

Due to be delivered today.

Studio was too Pro for my home use.

thanks

I wonder whether the 32 core version needs more memory than the 24 core version, as the GPU memory is shared with the CPU memory, I suppose.
