24" desk height a pain in the neck

I moved from a 20" imac to a 24" imac. Anyone find that the 24" monitor height is too high? I need to lower it about 2-3 inches. The only option I found is a VESA mount Ergotron 33-329-057 neoflex widescreen monitor stand. The shorter 20" imac and 24" cinema display stands do not fit or support the weight. Anyone have experience with this mount? How does it look with the Aluminum imac? Any other suggestions
 
For what it's worth I got a VESA mount from a friend who was closing his mortgage offices down and had all sorts of goody extras to get rid of. I thought what the heck I'll grab one of those and see if my iMac will fit it.

I do not know what kind it is or the specs on it but I'll be darned if I didn't get my new 24" to line up with it. It's sitting tight and pretty on my wall at my exact height preferences.

Sometimes I think those mount stand #'s are just "cover our butt" specs for the OEM. Most any VESA mounts that you find to line up with any screen should really work IF:

1) the mount itself is aligned and connected to your screen properly
2) the mount itself is properly mounted on the wall - meaning countered into wood not just dry wall

Hope this is at least some food for thought.

The "correct" hight for a monitor is so that the top of it is even with your eyes.
For me the 24" works perfectly.

You really need an adjustable chair and table and set all the heights from the ground up. Don't just change one thing.
 
Yes, I've always thought the 24" sits too high thanks to the chin and I find that too many people adjust their monitor too high. What I do is move it back far enough on the desk until the top of the screen is at my eye level. This is equivalent to lowering it about 2-3 inches. It should not be in the same spot as your 20" used to be.

These are very valid and good points Chris makes. You want to look at your whole workstation/area. In my case I'm 6'4 so even with my desk and chair being as ergo correct as possible, I still like my monitors a slight bit higher (whether mounted on wall or on desk) than "eye level" as it almost forces me to sit up straight on long work or play sessions.

Perhaps the next iMac should have a forehead instead of a chin.

I'll have it :). Unless you're really short I don't see how it would be that much of a problem. I'm 5'7" and sitting at the desk in an "ergonomic" position with my elbows at a 90 degree angle it's just about perfect, just a tad too high but by no means uncomfortable. Perhaps your chair isn't high enough.
 
chair correct for keyboard pullout. Familiar with proper ergonomics, was wondering if anyone has the neo flex stand and their opinions, since it is only online.

I'm going to a physical therapist to fix my neck from using my iMac on my desk top. I was comforted to see others are having the same problem. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that it's made worse if you wear glasses with bifocals. I have to tilt my head back in order to see the screen. I bought some glasses on Amazon that fit over my regular glasses that help a bit, but they are not a permanent solution. I may try to get some real computer glasses that will let me see the screen at a certain distance. Trouble with that is not being able to type from a document without switching glasses back and forth. Can't mount it on the wall, can't afford another desk, so if the glasses don't work, I may be trading it in on a laptop or a smaller desktop. UGH.
