I have an early 2009 24" iMac with a Radeon HD 4850 video card. Within windows I can go the display section of the control panel and select to view all available modes. It shows 1920x1200, the native resolution as being available at 60hz. It shows 1920x1080 being available at various refresh rates all the way up to 1920x1080@120hz. When I select this option the movement of the mouse seems to be more fluid.

The only thing I can't seem to figure is how to select a refresh rate along with the resolution for a game. I would like to be able to play Borderlands in 1920x1080@120hz, but I when I select that resolution it defaults to 60hz. Can anyone offer advice?

Also, I have not seen any other mention of people using the imac in 120hz mode. Could I possibly cause damage to the screen?

Could This Do Damage?

I have a 24" iMac with a Radeon HD 4850. I am running the Catalyst Control Center and noticed that I was able to run the display at 1920x1080@120hz. I have forced it into this mode when I run the application Borderlands, and the results are pretty nice. I can keep Vsync active and have a frame rate that averages 70fps with dynamic shadows off.

My only concern is that I have not seen any mention of support for a 120hz refresh rate at that resolution for the display in any of the literature. Is there any possibility that I could cause damage to the display?

No.

hi could you do me a huge favor and download "phoenix edid designer" and save your edid to a dat file and post here? i want to try to see if I also can push my imac to 120hz.

basically do this:

# Download Phoenix edid designer - http://www.tucows.com/preview/329441 and extract it to a working folder.
# Run it and click the registry toolbar button.
# Save the EDID to a .DAT file in the working folder.
# upload here
