Thinking of getting a Camcorder about $500. What is a great one for that price that gives me amazing video footage?

yes the vixia are v good and work well with imac.....i got the hf10 uses memory cards and basically very happy with performance for price

Canon can

Both recommendations are great choices. Check here for reviews:

I bought the Canon Vixia HF11 at the weekend after doing some serious research. It is smaller as no viewfinder or tape, 32GB onboard memory (3-4hrs of highest format footage). Canon does seem to be the best brand on the market (second place Sony).

Just waiting for my 24" with ATI 4850. Next stop is software...think I'm going to grab FCE and some plug-in effects. Not to hijack this thread but any good ideas for plug-ins that are not crazy expensive anyone?

I second the Canon Vixia HV30. I have that one, after owning the Sony HDR-HC3 which had a motherboard failure at one year and was not covered under Sony's crappy warranty.

Fantastic video quality from the Canon, and easy transfer to the iMac.

actually i got the hf11 not the hf10 hehehe... basically the same so i got confused

about plugins....there is various good stuff some even free but actually there is a lot of good stuff that just comes with final cut.....play with that before you spend money on other stuff its actually pretty powerful and many plugins are just extrapro versions of what you have already or with better interfaces or whatever

and yes a lot of the pro plugins are very expensive.....
