I set up my new 24" iMac this morning and was fearing a problem filled day. I'm happily disappointed!

Try as I may, I just can't seem to find a single dead or stuck pixel! This display is beautiful. To my amazement, the hard drive is silent and the superdrive makes no strange noises! The migration from my intel mini was uneventful and downright boring! I didn't even have a problem removing the screw for the memory upgrade. Everything just seemed to, well, work!

The message is that folks mainly post in this forum when they have a problem. This machine is fast, quiet, and beautiful. I'm just glad to share some GOOD news!!!

AWESOME!!! Congrats! I will ditto your comments. I love my new iMac. I have used only Macs for the last 8 years since I left Windows and this new iMac is by far the best computer I have ever owned bar none.:D

I also have not had a single problem with my new 24" iMac. After people started receiving them and posting their horror stories I started to get nervous and expected a problem.

I too was happily disappointed. Pulled it out of the box, turned it on, and Bam! There it was, perfect with not a single dead or stuck pixel. No problems with anything. Runs like a dream. Only time I ever hear it is when I put a DVD in. Way to go :apple:!

The majority of people are probably equally satisfied with their Macs. The people who post are usually the ones who have something wrong, so you get a bad representation of the whole of the users.

My only complaint is that my favorite backgrounds didn’t work because they were at a much lower resolution, but I found some new ones I like. :)

You had me going there... This is just the news I wanted to make up my mind on purchasing one. Once leopard hits I'm hitting buy!

If you plan on ordering through a reseller, I would say place the order now. I have been waiting for 5+ weeks, and I am thinking getting my iMac by the time Leopard is released might be a bit ambitious.

To:ScotC2105 if you want to be as happy as the rest of us then order your iMac directly from either Apple's website or call them directly. Apple is shipping to their direct customers FIRST and the resellers are pushed behind.

I have no dead pixels on my iMac and it is fully functional, which is what I expect for the majority of my orders, with the additional proviso that Apple don't seem to be able to deliver a machine that stays functional to a higher degree than other manufacturers. Posting the bleedin' obvious is probably a little redundant.

Wow i researched this whole site and googled questions on the new imac lcd quality im pretty worried about the issues .Yellow tint and faded colors on the imac.I may just go for a mb or a mini.

Another happy user

100% with you, and I switched from a Windows XP laptop. It's been a fantastic experience and the iMac is a joy to use! :apple:

My first post and as a switcher from PC land I have to say I'm still loving it.I bought my iMac the evening of 8/7 and haven't looked back. Now just have to convince the wife who's still(stubornly) using the pc. My only problem was iTunes locking up and the 1.1 update has fixed that.:D

Not so lucky with my new 24" iMac

Bought my first Mac about a month ago. It's a 24" iMac with 320Gb harddisk.
Everything was running beautifully with my transfer of data from my PC
which included lots of videos, photos, etc... Then a week ago the harddisk died on me with no apparent reason. This was confirmed by Applecare after going through various checks. The last thing I did was merely creating a couple of website icons on my desktop for easy access.

To test if these icons still appear on desktop, I shut down the Mac and restarted--but it never woke up again except a blank white screen staring at me all the time.

Right now the Mac is still in Apple Workshop here in Singapore. Why it is taking so long to replace my hard disk? I was told the first new hard disk that arrived was tested faulty and had to wait another day for the workshop to submit new request for new hard disk.

I am starting to feel disappointment with Apple despite hearing all these `great' things about Mac, etc... Is it just a coincidence that I happen to be the unlucky one? because with Window I had only had twice my harddisk crushed on me after more than 12 years of using various PCs. Or, is the new iMac has such inherent problem?

Just one month and it happened--really disappointed.

Good Luck!

I love my iMac - my third one and the best yet.

Quiet, powerful and elegant.

Great to hear you have such good experiences with iMac. I assume this third iMac of yours is the new alum one same as mine. My advice is do have a backup of all your data, because my harddisk crushed in about a month for no apparent reason. It is still in Apple Workshop waiting to be replaced. Good Luck!

I have 1 dead pixel on my 20". I only see it if I have a white background or if I'm trying to look for it. Not a big deal, IMO.

Aside from that, no issues. Best computer I've used, by far. :)
