Hi,

I hope this is the right sub-forum for my problem, but I suspect that I may have a H/W Problem.

I have just purchased a 24" iMac with 500GB Drive and 2 GB Ram.

I have installed some software (for example Folding@Home) apparently this caused my Mac to loose connection to the HD and to freeze. Now I have removed Folding@Home and this did not happen anymore.

I'm a bit surprised that it seems to be "easy" to lock-up a Mac by means of Software, since I have a similar Problem when using Lightroom. Lightroom just suddendly stops working. I can still work with Finder and other applications. When I choose to immediate end Lightroom it does disappear, but when I shutdown the iMac it will get stuck in the shutdown process (blue screen with little spinning wheel). Then I'll have to switch it off with the Power Button. Is this normal? Do I have a H/W Problem?

I have to note that I also have the humming backlight problem as well as 4 broken Subpixels (2 Pixels having each 2 Subpixels broken - blue & green staying black all the time). This is not very distracting since it's on the left hand side of the screen, but a bit disappointing.

Any hint for me?

I am no expert....but I would get back with the Apple Store or Apple immediately. Obviously something is not right but you might get quicker results if you take it back to the place you purchased it..or at least give them a call. It may be something simple...but it still sounds odd to me.

I read somewhere (I think in MacRumors Forums) that Apple was experiencing problems with the 500 gb hard drives installed in the iMacs. I cannot find it now (or using the search). I will keep looking, because it was here yesterday (you should too).

I would take it back to the store if you bought it there or even if you bought it online, as they may be able to fix it if you do not wait too long. They may exchange it for you. Don't wait too long. Good Luck.
