OK, I once had a 20" iMac G5. Loved it -- so big, I could do so much with the resolution. I got rid of it for an iBook G4. I really miss the large, beautiful, bright screen. I would really like to get this iMac 24" though, I know I need a laptop for college courses; I'd be sunk without one.

1) Should I sell my iBook G4 to help pay for it? What's the lowest iBook I could get in price that would still run OS X? Could I get something around 300? I just need Word, Firefox, and AdiumX to run on the iBook.

2) How would I transfer the documents back and forth and quickly? Could I use bluetooth? Will it be a pain in the butt to do?

3) Should I completely sell my iBook and just use my old IBM Thinkpad? Then what can I do about transferring the files? I use FreeBSD on it...

4) Should I suck it up and just keep my iBook even if it will get very little use.

Your opinions and help is appreciated!

Keep iBook so you can move around and do small work

I belive there is software to sync a certain folder or hard drive of both computer.

Use a flash drive

Having a laptop will help u get out of the dorm and allow you do small work. I have two laptops in my bag at all times.

I have a 12" iBook and want an iMac 24". I was going to consider selling the iBook but now want something portable just incase.

Do the same if you think it is practical and affordable.

If you miss the large screen why not just get an external monitor??

Honestly, if you're just using an iBook for classes, any iBook beyond a clamshell G3 should run OSX fine, especially if you're just running Word or whatever.

I've got a 900mhz G3 iBook that runs Panther practically perfectly. I wouldn't know about Tiger though. Most iBooks have Airport, and like someone said a USB Flash Drive is easy for transferring documents and the like.

If I were in your shoes, I would just get a Dell 24" flat screen and hook it up to your iBook temporarily. If you want a faster machine, a Mac mini or MacBook have enough power for most people, and would still be cheaper with the dell screen than the $2k iMac.
