I have a 2008 24" imac 3.06 ghz with the 500 gb seagate hard drive. I got this on december 25 2009. Its a good computer and i really like it except one thing. the hard drive is extremely loud. my friend has a 2009 imac with the western digital hard drive and its 1 tb and hers is extremely silent and it makes no noise at all. i noticed that when you turn macs on there supposed to make a certain kind of hard drive noise. mine makes a noise but its a lot louder and it doesnt sound the same as other ones. anyway, im worried about taking it to the apple store for them to change it because ive heard bad stories. im afraid theyll scratch my screen or dent the case on the imac or ill get a new hard drive but itll be another seagate or it would be louder. please help me decide because this is an awesome computer except for the fact that it sounds like it's hungry. heres a video of the noises http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zev-d1ESio you have to make you speakers louder to hear it

If they scratch or damage it, they are responsible to repair it. You may even get a new 27". The stories you read here are extreme and usually these repairs end up being perfect

Thanks. I have one more question though. How do i schedule an appointment to tell them i want a hard drive replacement. ive called apple before and they told me that anytime i was ready they would make an appointment but that was about four months ago and i never went through with it because the noise stopped. now the noise has come back and my 90 day telephone support has expired so i dont know what to do

Thanks so much. I scheduled my appointment online. I wrote a note saying that i was coming in to get my hard drive replaced because it was really noisy from when i got it. i also wrote that i called applecare about it and they are aware of it.
