Just bought an iMac! :D

How do i rotate my display to portrait mode? The option isn't in System Preferences > Displays.

My video: NVIDIA GeForce 9400

24" iMac 2.66 Intel Core2Duo

Thanks!

Excellent. I downloaded it and it works. Thanks very much. This could seriously F something up though?

I don't know, I just read it from other thread. I don't see a reason why it would break something though but do it your own risk. I've rotated PC displays million times without problems, there's even a shortcut for that.

You're right, it does seem weird, but thanks for the heads up. Also, thanks again for the program.

i feel like i should weigh in...

It would be much more logical to take pains to keep the iMac in it's current (standard) orientation. First off, the physical design of the case means that heat will more than likely build up on the "up" side. If you place it with the ports near the bottom, this will heat up the ODD, increasing the odds of overheating/failure. If you flip it the other way, the logic board (containing CPU and GPU) will get WAY too hot. Also, like Hellhammer said, forcing the GPU to flip everything like that will make it work harder than it has to. I suggest mounting it vertically.

Good Luck.

It will be on this: Clicky

Pay attention to the reviews of that VESA adapter...yesterday I received my Ergotron widescreen desk stand and the adapter. Luckily I had a set of good Torx drivers with large handles...I could not tighten the center screw down enough with the cheap wrench Apple supplies. It took me a good hour to get the existing stand off and that adapter on

The GPU doesn't care if the display is rotated or not....it's doing mathematical calculations on where to display "N" number of pixels on an "X" by "Y" rectangular grid...it doesn't care if the X edge is the long or short side.

I read the reviews and they should help me hopefully. I have my own tools too, so it should be all good.

...ehh...
depends on the method that this miraculous program works. Yes, in all technicality, this is how it SHOULD work, but it is likely that this program is an interpreter, not a firmware modifier. To do what you described, the program would need to patch the firmware every time, or at least switch out a KEXT. It sounds like this program actually just does the switching itself, and more than likely slaves everything to the GPU core, rather than the CPU so that the noobs dont flip out.

So no, that is likely not how it works.
