I can't find one of these things in stock for the life of me.

Even the flagship Fifth Avenue store is sold out.

Same in Salt Lake City, UT. A friend of mine has been trying to pick one up for days. He was told they get near-daily shipments, but they sell-out almost immediately. They also won't reserve one due to the high demand.

I'm glad I ordered mine online then, considering I live in New Jersey. That's odd that they sell out almost immediately, not to mention a little impossible. Unless people are lining up outside the store waiting for it to open to buy the new imacs, which I highly doubt.

Maybe it's the time you're getting there? Call in sick to work and get there bright and early. :D

That's it exactly. This particular store has been telling people to check back the next day around 11:00am. I guess that's when they get their FedEx deliveries. The problem is that my friend can't get there until late afternoon and the store refuses to reserve any. It's first come, first serve.

In any case, he e-mailed me earlier and said he went with the 2.4GHz 20". It's his first Mac, and he was quite shocked to learn that they are in such high demand. It looks like Apple has hit a home run.

Of all places, it was Best Buy that came through. They actually had the new 24" iMac... Said I was the first person to get one at the store.

I had to do a little trick to see if it was in stock... Go to the page for the iMac.. copy the SKU, and then do a Store Availability check for another product, and paste in the SKU in the web address. But it worked!

This thing is gorgeous.

Also in MA

I called just about every apple store in MA this past weekend to look for a 24 inch 2.8 and only the Burlington store had them to begin with. Unfortunately, with this past weekend having been tax free in MA, when I got there on Sunday, I was told that all 24inch models were just about sold out not just in MA but company wide. I ended up ordering online so that I could get the tax free thing and now I play the waiting game for a week or so...
