the 24" imac was in the Refurbished section on the Apple store, not a bad price for 1699.00......so I bought it....

does that include the nvidia 7600 GT?

do they charge taxes on refurbs? they shouldn't b/c it is an used machine.

No. Just the stock 7300GT

Yes, they charge tax and they should because they are required to by law when they sell product. And it's not technically "used" - it's refurbished product that they sell at a discount.

well used stuff can't be charged taxes b/c a product can only be charged tax once.

for example, you buy a new product and u pay the sales tax, and u use it and want to resell it, u can't add sales tax (also b/c u don't have a tax id lol).

imagine, if u charge taxes for the same machine everytime it sells, the government is going to be filthy rich

thats how it works.

buy a new car, you pay tax

sell that car to a dealer.

that dealer sells that car, now used, and charges tax again.

prices may have changed, but the govt got taxes on the same item, twice. Though it was tax on the sale really.

That is really freaken cheap. I just might have to go that route.

It's $424 less then regular price. Holy crap!

I've never seen a discount like that before. Could we get some proof?

I'll confirm that I saw it also. It showed ~30% discount compared to some of the other items that show a 15% discount. I would keep my eyes peeled for another appearance.

This one did have the upgraded card in it :)

Lucky guy! Another good reason to buy refurbs... unexpected bonuses!

btw, anyone notice that a 20" 2.1 Ghz iMac G5 now costs $1299 refurb, while a 20" intel core duo iMac costs $1199? And the 17" 1.9 Ghz G5 costs $999 while the 17" 1.83 Ghz intel core duo costs $949? What's up with that?

I have watched the refurbs closely for some time now, and I don't think I have ever seen anything better than stock configuration. I could surely be wrong though.

1 REFURB IMAC 24/2.16/1G/250/SD/AP/BT-USA
Estimated Ship Date: Nov 1, 2006
Estimated Arrival: Nov 8, 2006

What is up with that? It is Oct. 13, 2006 and my refurbished 24' Apple iMac will not be shipped until November 1. At first it was actually estimated at 30 days to be shipped there was no in between days. It was going to take 30 days to be exact. Any thoughts on why it is going to take so long?

for those of us that don't mind buying refurbs this is a great deal!

I agree, but for those folks that are unsure about refurbs;

If my refurb iPod Video is any example, there is absolutely nothing wrong with refurbs from Apple. My iPod and my buddies iPod are both refurbs and they both look and act brand new. My only problem with buying a refurb iMac is that I know that I want at least one upgrade (video card), and the refurbs are only listed in stock configuration. I understand that people get lucky, but I REALLY want the upgraded video so I guess I need to buy new.
