Yesterday I ordered my 24 inch iMac, 2 Gig ram, 7600GT. So its a BTO.

The saleswomen of the shop (in Belgium) told me its possible that I will have to wait for 6 weeks for it to arrive. This was a dissapointment.

I ordered one anyway immediatly to avoid further delays

The shop had no COre2duo machine in stock anymore at all.

Is it normal that building/shipping takes sooo long?

6 weeks is pretty ridiculous. I don't know what that means in Europe, but just from a customer standpoint, waiting 6 weeks for anything is bad. And for something important like a computer? Unbearable. I have to wait about a week for my iMac to ship, and then another week for it to arrive. Two weeks, max, and I'm already a bit itching to upgrade shipping because I feel that's slow.

Yeah, I've ordered BTO 24" a week ago at my local Apple reseller, and I didn't even get a quote on how long it would take....

They even didn't receive their demo 24" themselves.

The Belgian online Apple store still quotes 'shipping within 8 days' for 24" BTOs, although it stated 24h for the same iMac a week ago when I ordered mine..... Oh well...

Hi. Not sure if this is of any help, but I ordered mine BTO with 2 GB RAM, BT and 256 Graphichs card 10 days ago at a Norwegian Apple center. They told me around 2-3 weeks, and I got mine yesterday:) (9 days)

I would guess Belgium would be pretty similar to Norway, if not better.
I´m pretty sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

Fingers crossed

I ordered 24" iMac on 18th Sept 2.33Ghz, 2Gb, 500Gb HDD & 7600GT and it just arrived today :D

I bought it from the UK Apple Store

Congratulations !

Hopefully delivery time will be same as yours!

I planned a holiday to China from the 7th until the 21st, so I ordered the 3rd of oktober, with the intention to have a new computer when I come back, hope its still possible.

BTW is your computer working well?
Have you tried to install bootcamp?

It's just he fact that you're in two queues which makes the wait so long at regular Apple Stores. From what I have heard, stores get these machines in a marginal amount, and usually they have a lot of people waiting already, so that's how those predictions start.

If you want your Mac quickly, after a release, you'd be better of buying it online IMHO.

yes I know,

but I like to see some benchmarks, review and stuff,

like in this case I opted for the 7600GT because I read on Barefeats that its really worth it.

thats why I wait like a few weeks and then decide which BTO suits me best

I can expect that the top model fits the best by definition, if you are only looking at benchmarks ;)

At what shop did you order it?

Its not a real Apple Store,

but its an official Apple reseller, in Leuven, Easyware.

They only sell Apple computers. Its the best i could find in this area.

Hi,

I ordered mine 20th Sep from UK Online Apple Store. They shipped 24th Sep from Shanghai via TNT.

here is the tracking:

02 Oct 2006 15:32 London Heathrow Depot Delivered
02 Oct 2006 13:23 London Heathrow Depot Out For Delivery
01 Oct 2006 09:10 London Heathrow Depot Import Received
30 Sep 2006 11:27 Northampton Hub Consignment Received At Transit Point
29 Sep 2006 21:07 Arnhem Hub Consignment Received At Transit Point
28 Sep 2006 11:30 Amsterdam Potential Connection Delay
26 Sep 2006 09:55 Shanghai Shipped From Originating Depot
25 Sep 2006 20:00 Pudong International Airport Potential Connection Delay
24 Sep 2006 11:23 Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point

So the delivered 2nd Oct and you can see that Apple was very quick but TNT was soo slow. It took more than a week to ship to London.
So I think 2 weeks a minimum.
Hope this helped. ;)

it gives me some hope,

is it possible that some countries get the priority over others?

and that some shops in a country get priority or is that nonsense?

Could be, but i don't think it counts for BTO stuff. Sometimes however certain countries, like our own little belgium, get left behind when distributing stock models to shops.

That depends on the distributor, they receive the shipment and send it to the shop. Their bigger customers might receive a certain model faster. But again, I think you're quite safe with a BTO on that.

Have a fun wait.
I'll check what the delivery time for a BTO 24" here in BXL would be. I'll let you know tomorrow.

Great,

Nice to see I am not the only Belgian, on this forum, at first I didnt know that with BXL you meant Brussels,

So I didnt want to buy it in Fnac because its not a real apple store

and not in Cami or Macline in Brussels because I prefer to buy in my own town Leuven.

Tomorrow 1 am I go from Zaventem to Peking  and come back the 21st of october and I hope it'll be ready by then....:D

I'm hopefully ordering mine tomorrow from the UK Apple Store. Specced it up today and its saying 6 days delivery time. I hope that's accurate, a 6 week wait would be unbearable!

I think I'll go for the upgraded video card too, seems to be worth the extra money. I'd have bought the iMac locally but they only have standard spec 24" machines in the local store.

There is a better premium apple reseller in brussels: doPi (dansaertstraat 149) ;) Not far from Leuven...

Have fun in China!

It's working fine no dead pixels and just getting to grips with osx - I've been using windows for 15 years and I've been an IT Manager looking after a huge NT network for the past 6 years - So i might be a bit confused for a couple of weeks or so until I get to grips.

I'll be having a go with bootcamp sometime next week

It looks gorgeous!!!
