Hey guys, my 3 year old white intel imac's logic board is toast according to an apple certified diagnosis.

they offered me 200$ for the computer. I see that a similar computer (2.33 4gb nvidia 7600) one goes for around 850$-- the repair cost is 450 for the board+80 labor+tax to fix it. prolly 600$ total.

Very Very disappointed with apple hardware as this is not my first issue. They make amazing software but such failure is so disappointing. Of course i'm just outside apple care, perfect timing.

Anyway what should i do? can i get more parting it out myself? Should i just fix it? Very sad day. I loved my 24" computers should last a little longer than 3 years...

When did your Apple Care end? If it has just ended (like less than a month), you should ask the repair for free or only pay for labor because your 3-year warranty just ended.

My AppleCare ended last month but they covered my hard drive that crashed last week. My DVD drive went three months ago, too.

I am getting a bit nervous about the future, though. I'm wondering if I should sell my computer now and get a new iMac.

Maybe you should try to get a used part on eBay? I'd say try to fix it and keep or sell it.

Thanks for the replys. It's just sitting at the grey screen. Sometimes frezes at the pinwheel. Tried to find cheaper logic boards, cheapest I found is 400.

I didn't have apple care and I don't believe in it. If I bought apple care for every mac I ever owned I could have used the money and purchased a new i7 27" now. I am still better off payin the repair my point was that it was outside the 3 ur window anyway. I'm thinking about getting it fixed but worry about other problems flaring up.

Anyone know where I can get a cheaper logic board ?
