I currently have 32 inch 4k set at 2440x1440. For me, a large flat display that is too close results in poorer and uncomfortable viewing angles on the edges, so I ended up moving the display back, and lowering the resolution, to avoid this.

I'm hoping that the iMac 24 will work for me at 2,240 x 1,260, with the iMac positioned closer than my current 4k. So the end result will be only a slight reduction in real estate and not feel like going from a 32 inch to a 24 inch. Something like sitting closer to a smaller home theater display.

I'm curious to know what resolution people are running on their 24 iMac and also what resolution / size they use on previous or other displays.

Generally native resolution looks best on non-Apple displays and HiDPI (Retina) mode looks best on Apple displays.

So you'd want to run the 24" at "Best for Retina" which would be effectively 2240x1260 (half the native resolution of 4480x2520) and then probably a 24" QHD display at 2560x1440 native for the second display since that will be pretty close to the Retina/HiDPI resolution on the iMac.
